The university remains fully committed to the collective bargaining process and to reaching a fair, equitable, and sustainable collective agreement with CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 3912, which represents our part-time faculty.
The collective agreement between »»ÆÞ¾ãÀÖ²¿ and CUPE Local 3912 expired in August 2024.
The parties have been engaged in negotiations and the union recently held a vote where members provided their bargaining committee with a strike mandate should a negotiated agreement not be reached.
The conciliator declared an impasse and filed a confidential report with the Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration on October 8, 2025. This step initiated a 14-day cooling-off period. At the end of this period, the university and CUPE 3912, Part-Time Faculty will meet on October 22, 2025, in an effort to reach an agreement.
Our priority remains student success and the continuity of teaching and research. We deeply value the contributions of all our faculty, librarians, and staff, and we are actively working with the union bargaining team to address the outstanding issues at the bargaining table.
We are hopeful that the upcoming conciliation meeting will be productive and that the bargaining teams will continue to make progress toward a renewed collective agreement.
