Hi everybody. My name is Allison Denny. I'm one of the exam accommodation administrators here at the Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility. Today I'll be going over a new feature of our accommodate platform that'll hopefully make both your lives and your student lives a little bit easier.
Right now, as faculty, you should be kind of familiar with our accommodate platform as you log in to view your accommodation letters that are sent at the beginning of each semester. Starting September 2025, students will now be using accommodate to book their tests, quizzes, exams, midterms.
All through the platform itself, as faculty members, this means that you'll now be able to log in and see the test requests as well as upload your testing materials right to the platform. This will hopefully ensure more accurate testing as well as greater security around testing materials.
Materials rather than sending them via e-mail or just dropping them off in our Dropbox, I'm going to quickly share my screen and I will quickly go through how to upload some testing materials with you.
All right. So if you come to our website smu.ca/FSC and click this book Slash upload a test, you'll be taken right into the accommodate system login. It should look a little familiar. You'll obviously go in under faculty members.
I'm logged in here as a fake faculty member who is teaching history of PES dispensers. This is what it looks like and what you should see and what you should have seen just to review the accommodation letters for this student.
And this is the new part. The test room bookings.
So Allison Adams has gone in, and she's requested a test for August 29th at 10:00 AM the approved here just means that we at the FSC have received the request and we have approved it. So she is ready to write. You can go in and review the test.
Booking that the student has submitted. If you notice anything a little funky or something that is different from what you have indicated the test to be, whether it's the test length or start time, don't worry about it. Once we receive your.
Information. Then we will make any necessary adjustments, so I've already gone in and uploaded an exam. You'll simply click add exam. However, I have an example here.
So we please ask that you name your exam in the following convention. You'll add your start and end date. These will always be the same and the exam start time. So we see that that might have been incorrect should be AM not PM.
And the test will be 90 minutes. Please make sure that you're always putting this in minutes and that it is the amount of time that the rest of the class receives accommodate, or the FLC staff will adjust the time for any time accommodations that the student might have.
You can choose between whether it is a paper test or an online test. Just note that we are no longer doing online invigilation. If you have an online exam that you would like to be invigilated, the student will have to come into the centre.
We ask that you let us know what materials are permitted for the test, if it is a specific model of calculator or a certain size CHEAT SHEET, formula sheet, anything along those lines, please put it in here and let us know. Otherwise we don't know.
And any instructions that you would like the student to know something along the lines of do the essay question 1st and then complete multiple choice. These two boxes are very important and we ask that you be as specific as possible because this is the information that we give to the student and that we also give to the.
Regulators that might be looking over the students tests if you don't put it in here, we don't know and it could provide some could cause some issues. So just just make sure that you're adding everything in there.
You have a preferred method of contact during the test. If there's any questions that your student might have, you can add them in there. We obviously will never give out a phone number to a student and then yeah, you can just upload your exam.
You can either apply the exam to all records, so if another one of your students comes in and books a request for the same test, you don't have to come in and do all of this twice. However, if you do click off no, then you will have to come in and upload the exam for every student.
And finally, just a quick note here that if you have a paper exam that you can pick it up the next working day between 8:30 and either for 4:30 depending on what time of the year we're in at the FSC in student Centre, three O 9.
You'll click save and your exam will be uploaded successfully.
That's it. That's all you need to do to upload some exams. If you have any questions at all, or if you have any issues that you run into while trying to upload any testing materials, you can always reach out to us at fscexam@smu.ca. Thank you so much for watching.
